With the continued spread of COVID-19, Riverside County public health officials are now asking residents to cover their face or wear masks if they are forced to leave their homes.

The face coverings do not have to be hospital grade but need to cover the nose and mouth, according to Riverside University Health System's press release.

“When the situation changes, the rulebook changes,” said Dr. Cameron Kaiser, Riverside County public health officer. “We’re seeing our numbers increasing even sooner than we predicted and that means our strategy must change too.

He continued, "Covering your face doesn’t change the orders everyone must abide by to stay home as much as possible and maintain social distancing, but it’s an extra layer of protection that I think we need to add.”

Good ways to keep your face covered include using a mask, bandana, scarves, small towels or neck gaiters.

Remember to only leave your house for essential things and continue to frequently wash your hands, practice social distancing and stay home as much as you can to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
