New York City’s "Tribute In Light" honoring victims of the September 11th attacks has been canceled this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Organizers made the announcement Thursday saying it was an incredibly difficult decision after concluding the health risks during the pandemic were far too great for the large crew required to produce the annual tribute. They hope to continue the event next year for the 20th anniversary.
"Tribute In Light" first began in 2002, 6 months after the terrorist attacks. The beams light up the sky reaching up to 4 miles in the air representing the two WTC towers that were attacked and destroyed in 2001 killing an estimated 2,606 people.
