Riverside Mayor, Rusty Bailey, and Corona Mayor, Jim Steiner, have announced that flags in each city will be lowered to half-staff for the next two days to honor two local marines, tragically killed during a training exercise off San Clemente Island.
Cpl. Cesar A. Vallanueva, 21 of Riverside, and Pfc. Bryan J. Baltierra, 19 of Corona, were one of 7 Marines and one Navy Sailor, who perished in an amphibious assault vehicle, when it sank just west of Oceanside.
Bailey said, "These young men in the early stages of their service to our country deserve our utmost respect for their sacrifice. We hope this effort will bring a small measure of comfort to their families."
All of the Marines aboard were based at Camp Pendleton, near San Diego.
