The Riverside County Public Health Officer just announced that the closure of schools will now be through June 19th. This is in response to the current conditions of the coronavirus.

In a news release, the Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser said:

“After consultation with the districts and the County Office of Education, I unfortunately believe the safest option is to keep the schools closed through the end of the school year."

Previously the closure was through April 30th. The extended closure covers all public and private schools, colleges and universities.

Board Chair V. Manuel Perez, Fourth District Supervisor spoke to the severity of COVID-19, “The closure of schools for the remaining of the school year exemplifies the seriousness of the coronavirus." This measure is being made to help flatten the curve, but many parents and families will have concerns about education and food for their children. To that, Board Chair V. Manuel Perez, Fourth District Supervisor said "...school districts will be working hard to ensure that youth have access to education through distance learning and access to school meals.

As of April 1st, Riverside County had 429 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 13 related deaths.
