The band Lady Antebellum announced to their fans that they've made the decision to change their name.

The band will transition from Lady Antebellum to Lady A. They explained that "Antebellum" was chosen, because they took their first photos in front of an "Antebellum" style home almost 14 years ago.

The term "Antebellum" is described by dictionary.com as:

"adjective

before or existing before a war, especially the American Civil War; prewar:the antebellum plantations of Georgia."

Lady A states that they want their music to be a "refuge" and "inclusive of all". They also explained how and who they made this decision with, including their "closest black friends and colleagues". They apologized that the change took so long saying they are "regretful" and "embarrassed"  that they "did not take into the account the associations that weigh down this word referring to the period of history before the Civil War, which includes slavery."

Lady A is also a nod to their fans, which nicknamed them Lady A from the start.
