NBA superstar Michael Jordan is joining forces with NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin to start their own NASCAR team.
The pair announced the news last night on social media. Denny Hamlin posted about how he met Jordan 11 years ago and became the 1st NASCAR athlete to represent Jordan's brand. He said their "friendship has grown over the years and now we are ready to take it to the next level."
In a statement, Michael Jordan said "Historically, NASCAR has struggled with diversity, and there have been few Black owners...The timing seemed perfect, as NASCAR is evolving and embracing social change more and more."
MJ and Denny's NASCAR team will be in the hands of driver Bubba Wallace. Bubba revealed the news on his IG saying, "I'm grateful and humbled that they believe in me and I'm super pumped to begin this adventure with them."
The team is expected to hit the track in 2021.
