When it comes to his career, Brett Young keeps his nose to the grindstone and only tries to better than one person: himself.
"I definitely think that if I'm competing at all, I'm not competing with other artists," he shares in a statement from his label. "I think we should all, as artists, have found our own DNA as a songwriter and as an artist, and so I really like lifting each other up. That's my favorite thing about the country music community.
"So, I think the only competition that I see is with myself," he continues. "It's up to me whether or not the songs get better, it's up to me whether or not the live show and my performance gets better.
"And so, if I ever feel like I'm kind of slacking or there's more I can be doing, yeah the competition is completely between me and me."
