It's no secret that Carly Pearce loves wine, and for the first time on Sunday night (June 16th), she performed her single "Hide the Wine" at a winery.
The Father's Day performance at Wilson Creek Winery was a playful one that also honored fathers, grandfathers, late fathers, and single mothers, particularly with Carly's "I Need a Ride Home," a message she wishes she could send to her 16 year old self.
"Ladies, how many of you have ever dated a guy that sucks?" she asked before going into "Doin' It Right," which celebrates the guys who get it right.
She gave a nod to '90s country with covers of Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, and an acoustic version of Deana Carter's "Strawberry Wine," which she says is "one of the songs that made me fall in love with this kind of music."
Her bluegrass roots were also evident, as her band gathered around her for a bluegrass medley that included classics like "Those Memories of You," and "Drivin' Nails In My Coffin."
But perhaps the sweetest moment of the show came when she paid tribute to the woman who gave her her first start in show business, Dolly Parton, as she recalled leaving home at that tender age of 16 to work at Dollywood. Carly brought a little girl named Kinsley on stage, and asked her who her favorite singer was. Little Kinsley's response of "You!" drew an "Awwww....!" from the crowd.
Opening act Honey County, always a delight, seemed particularly energized that evening, perhaps due to the presence of two of the trio's fathers, who were brought on stage. Their latest song, "Country Strong," written in honor of the victims of Borderline, is an inspired one, sure to be a permanent staple of their career.
