With so many people crammed underneath the Palomino tent, it was hotter underneath the shade than it was outside of the cover for Cody Johnson, who found himself playing to a much bigger crowd than the one he had entertained a couple years ago at Stagecoach.
The heat mattered little to the rabid CoJo fans, who screamed, "Co-dy! Co-dy!" before his set, enthusiastically sang along to every song, and wildly cheered for his salute to military, police, and border patrol.
"I thought riding bulls was what I was supposed to do for the rest of my life," the "On My Way to You" singer noted before performing the coming-of-age song, "Dear Rodeo." "Boy, was I wrong!"
"It's been ten years of being an independent artist," he recalled of his musicianship prior to his major label signing (which, fortunately, has allowed him to continue to create his own brand of traditional country music). "Thank you for making a stand with us, Stagecoach! I've been dreaming my whole life of doing something like this."
