The Riverside County Fire Department, in cooperation with CAL FIRE, has announced they'll be conducting several prescribed burns in the Inland Empire this week, including locations near Lake Perris, Lake Mathews, and Lake Skinner.
The goal of these controlled burns is to reduce fire hazards posed by flammable vegetation, as well as training opportunities.
On Tuesday, June 4th, a prescribed burn will take place at the Lake Perris State Recreation Area. The park, lake, and campgrounds will remain open; only the immediate area of the burn operation will be closed to visitors.
Approximately 250 acres of grassland will be burned in the Lake Mathews area on Wednesday, June 5th, near El Sobrante Road and Cajalco Road.
On Thursday, June 6th, a controlled burn is scheduled for Lake Skinner near Crown Valley Road and Rawson Road. Officials anticipate 269 acres will be burned.
All scheduled dates are subject to favorable weather conditions. Smoke will be visible from nearby communities, but is expected to disperse quickly and not pose a health health hazard. Operations will begin after 6am and conclude by 1pm the same day.
