When Drake White suddenly collapsed on stage mid-performance in Roanoke, Virginia, over the weekend, resulting in the show being cut short and the next night's performance in Myrtle Beach to get cancelled, fans became concerned.

The "Livin' the Dream" singer has now revealed to PEOPLE that in January, he was diagnosed with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM), a tangle of abnormal blood vessels connecting arteries and veins in the brain.

“It was basically stealing blood from my brain,” Drake explained to PEOPLE in an exclusive interview in July. “The neurologist told me that I should be thankful it was caught in time, because it could have caused a stroke.”

He shares that his diagnosis began with a persistent headache that sent him to the emergency room in the winter. Eventually, a neurologist was able to tell him, "You have a mass in the back of your head. It’s treatable, but it’s going to take a while."

Since then, he's undergone four embolization procedures (even while continuing to perform on stage), and Drake reports that his doctor believes they have “knocked out 75% of the mass.”

"[My wife> Alex and I are still overwhelmed by your vibes and prayers, and, for now, I’m gonna keep resting so I can come back stronger than ever," Drake promised on social media.
