Jimmie Allen, Matt Stell, and some of K-Frog's most loyal listeners helped the heritage station celebrate 30 years of bringing country music to the Inland Empire Thursday night (January 23rd) at Morongo Casino Resort and Spa.
Opener Matt Stell demonstrated the considerable '90s country influence of his sound, covering Rhett Akins and John Michael Montgomery, while the crowd sang along to his debut single, "Prayed for You," and current single, "Everywhere But On." He brought out headliner Jimmie Allen for a crowd-pleasing duet of "Home in a Hometown."
Ever gracious and humble, Jimmie's performance is that of a triumphant underdog, recalling the hard work and sacrifice put in over the ten years of living in Nashville before getting his big break. His cover of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's "Shallow" was a crowd-favorite, along with a song he wrote with Nelly called "Good Times Roll." He effortlessly wove in medleys of some of his favorite songs growing up (along with current songs) into his own hits, mostly notably "Best Shot," before finishing with "Underdogs," dedicating it to "anyone who's ever been given up on or given up on themselves."
