Jimmie Allen brought every piece of his soul to his performance at Stagecoach.
His debut album Mercury Lane is named after the street he grew up on in Milton, Delaware, where his dad only listened to '90s country and his mom only listened to Christian music, which inspired his song, "American Heartbreaker," for which he mashed up Alabama's "I'm in a Hurry," John Michael Montgomery's "Sold," and Nelly's "Ride Wit Me."
He brought out Abby Anderson again for a surprise duet of their cover of "Shallow," from the blockbuster movie "A Star Is Born." Despite some hiccups, the song was an excellent showcase for both.
His debut single "Best Shot" had the crowd singing along, and Jimmie reminded them that for ten years he lived in Nashville, as an overnight stocker at Wal-Mart, a janitor, and collecting cans, prior to having his first #1. "There's no such thing as a dream that's too big."
And for the duration of his performance, he kept a purple scarf - his late grandmother's - tied to his beltloop, as he does in her honor for every performance.
She'd no doubt be very proud.
