Another Southern California Fair has fallen victim to the coronavirus pandemic.

Miguel Santana, President and CEO of Fairplex in Pomona announced today that the 2020 L.A. County Fair, slated for September 4th-27th will be canceled, calling it a "necessary and difficult decision."

"We made this decision knowing the huge financial impact it will have on our staff, and hundreds of vendors, partners, artists, and entrepreneurs who rely on the fair each year for their own livelihood," he noted in a video on the fair's website. "We hope that you are doing everything you can to ensure the safety and health of yourselves and your family. Remember, we shine brighter together, and we hope to see you at the 2021 L.A. County Fair."

This is only the second time in the fair's nearly 100 year history that the fair has been canceled. A press release noted that the fair had closed from 1942 to 1947 for World War II, and closed for the day on September 11, 2001, but reopened the following day.

The L.A. County Fair will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2022.
