Riverside County has joined many other precincts in declaring a state of emergency over protests that have turned violent over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week, and has issued a countywide curfew.

The curfew begins at 6pm tonight (June 1st) and lasts until 6am tomorrow morning (June 2nd). It does not apply to residents who must leave their homes to attend essential work or business after 6 p.m.

⁣“We want the community to be able to peacefully assemble and exercise their first amendment rights,” said County Executive Officer and Director of Emergency Services George Johnson, who signed the order. “We must also take action to protect our community from threats of rioting and chaos. If you plan to visit a protest today, we urge you to do so peacefully and return home at the time of the curfew.”⁣

The City of Riverside issued a curfew earlier today.
