WalletHub has released its study for Best Places to Celebrate New Year's Eve in the U.S., and while San Diego and Los Angeles came in at #4 and #5 respectively, there wasn't a whole lot of other good news for Southern California.

The study considered 28 key factors in making their determinations, including legality of fireworks, average price of a New Year's Eve Party ticket, weather, and likelihood of hotels price gouging during major events.

New York City took first place for Best Place to Celebrate, followed by Denver and Las Vegas. Orange County's Anaheim came in at #34, while Irvine took #36. Long Beach was #49, while Santa Ana was #72. Riverside was #79, and San Bernardino was #87. Chula Vista came in at #94 out of 100 cities.

Taking a closer look at individual factors, Riverside tied for #97 for the highest price of a three-star hotel room on New Year's Eve (Las Vegas, Hialeah, Florida, and Honolulu also came in at the bottom of the list). San Bernardino came in at #96 out of 100 for fewest luxury shops and gourmet food stores per capita.

WalletHub also reported that 80% of Americans will spend less than $200 on New Year's Eve, and that there will be over 360 million glasses of sparkling wine consumed during the celebration.
