Shana Chappell of Norco, knows all too well what that's like. She's the mother of Lance Corporal Kareem Nikoui, who was killed in action during the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan. She is all too familiar with the ripple effects of becoming a Gold Star Family, as less than a year after losing Kareem, her oldest son Dakota Halverson, consumed with grief over losing his brother, died by suicide.
