Eighteen months after the date it was originally scheduled for, Brandy Clark was finally able to bring her "Who You Thought I Was Tour" to the Lodge Room in Los Angeles, and for the fans who'd been holding on to their tickets for a year and a half (as well as those who made their purchases more recently), it was worth the wait.
Hidden within the active nightlife scene of Highland Park, the Lodge Room show marked the fourth stop on Brandy's current tour. And Although Brandy's had a hand in writing huge hit songs like The Band Perry's "Better Dig Two," Miranda Lambert's "Mama's Broken Heart," and Kacey Musgraves' "Follow Your Arrow," for this show, Brandy relied on the songs that she is known for singing, and her set was comprised mostly of songs from her three albums: 12 Stories, Big Day in a Small Town, and Your Life Is a Record, which dropped just before the world shut down last March.
Her shows are a showcase for her remarkable songwriting ability, which runs the gamut from clever, tongue-in-cheek songs like "Stripes," to the vengeful "Daughter," the straightforward "Girl Next Door," the bittersweet "Love Can Go to Hell," to the haunting "Same Devil." She wrapped up her show with the new "You Get Me," and centerpiece song for her sophomore album Big Day in a Small Town, before recalling her band back on stage for the final two songs of the encore, "Hold My Hand" and "Pray to Jesus."
