It goes without saying that the current COVID-19 pandemic has been a primary topic of classroom discussion and research for the Health Science and Human Ecology Department at Cal State San Bernardino, and students in this department are taking things a step further to help our community and frontline workers.

After reading about the shortage of masks, Public Health Professor Amber Olney and her students started raising money in March to buy N-95 masks to donate to local hospitals. They are purchasing masks from a vendor who sells to the public, so these critical resources aren't being diverted away from health care facilities.

Their first donation was to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, which received the donated masks in May. Professor Olney's colleague in nursing mentioned that she knew of other locations in need of masks, and subsequent donations were made to Desert Regional Medical Center, and Kaiser Permanente.

So far, over $2,000 has been raised. They hope to raise nearly $5,000. You can make a donation here.
