Matt Stell's father passed away three and a half years ago, but the memories made live on, especially as Matt reflects on Independence Day. "Fourth of July was always a huge deal, especially at my dad’s house," he recalls in a statement from his label." He always would throw a big party, and we would cook fish or barbecue or something like that. And then we shoot a bunch of fireworks off, and it was always just a great time.
"That’s my favorite time of year and the hot summertime. And I remember when I was a kid just waiting for it to get dark enough to start shooting fireworks off. And that count down and that anticipation is something that I always look forward to, and I look forward to it this year as well."
Something else that Matt's anticipating this year? Ice cream. "This Fourth of July, I’m looking forward to what I look forward to every year. And that’s my grandmama making homemade ice cream," he continues. "It’s, for some reason, it’s different and better just like everything homemade. Also the watermelons will be good and ripe in the garden.
"And I’ll probably have a bottle rocket war with my nephews because they are big enough to defend themselves and they’re going to need to."
