At a special event last month in Riverside County, 82 children were adopted into loving homes countywide. County officials say the number of children adopted at that event was historic. The event is called Adoption Finalization Day, and it’s an annual tradition every November in celebration of National Adoption Month. It’s a time when counties and communities across the state promote adoption and permanency awareness through activities and events, drawing attention to the needs of children and youth in foster care waiting for families to adopt them.
Chandra Concannon, a mother who adopted a teenager on Adoption Finalization Day, and Ida Roath, an adoptions supervisor with the Children’s Services Division at Riverside County Department of Public Social Services, discuss this historic event.
