A bakery in Texas is “overwhelmed” by a surge of support after receiving backlash to a special cookie it made in honor of Pride Month.

Confections, the Lufkin-based establishment, shared photos of its special-edition cookies on its Facebook page, reports NBC News.

“More LOVE. Less hate,” the caption read. “Happy Pride to all our LGBTQ friends! All lovers of cookies and happiness are welcome here🌈✨.”

The Pride cookies pictured in the post — shared last Wednesday — were heart-shaped and topped off with rainbow icing.

The day after it shared the picture, the bakery followed up with another text-only post on its Facebook account explaining the “hateful” reaction it received to its showing of support for the LGBTQ+ community.

“Today has been hard. Really hard,” the post began. "We lost a significant amount of followers because of a rainbow heart cookie we posted.”

“We received a very hateful message on our business page canceling a large order (5dz) of summer themed cookies for tomorrow morning (that we just finished decorating) because of a rainbow heart cookie we posted,” it continued.

The post went on: “My heart is heavy. Honestly I never thought a post that literally said more love less hate would result in this kind of backlash to a very small business that is struggling to stay afloat and spread a little cheer through baked goods.”

The message then invited customers to visit the establishment and purchase the “over abundance” of the treat.

“So. If you love our cookies we will have an over abundance of them tomorrow. Hopefully tomorrow will be better ❤️,” it concluded.

What followed was a formidable showing of support. A photo shared to the Facebook page the day after showed a long line of visitors waiting to get a cookie.

“We are overwhelmed. This was taken around noon today and sent to us by a sweet customer. Thank you. ❤️,” read the caption to the aerial-view photo.

Dawn Cooley, who co-owns the shop with her sister Miranda, wrote yet another follow-up post on the official page sharing her gratitude.

“We’ve sold out,” she wrote.

“All this attention on our small business is very humbling. Makes me nervous! Those who know me (Dawn) know how shy I am. In the 11 years we’ve been open we’ve never seen anything quite like this,” Dawn continued

“We (my sister and co-owner Miranda and our fabulous baker Felicia) are just so humbled and grateful and moved by this outpouring of love,” she added.

Dawn even explained that in addition to those who bought cookies, several customers who showed up after the treats sold out still made a donation.

“The last several people in our shop put Money on their credit card for us to donate because there was nothing left to purchase,” she wrote.
