“We have songs from a person who’s singing about pulling a row, but we also have that from people who actually farm crops,” she boldly stated to Billboard. “No matter what version of getting in touch with things that you need — or getting out of touch — we have that.”
The album showcases some of McBryde’s most vulnerable music to date as she tells her own stories through songs like “Light on in the Kitchen” and “Learned to Lie,” that span her entire lifetime.
“I started playing bars when I was 19 and definitely too young to be by myself, driving all over the f***ing place and just being like, ‘I’ve never been in a city. This will be fine,’” McBryde shared. “The things I learned in those years, I wouldn’t trade for anything. They don’t make a college degree for things like that.”
With every song passing a “gut check” and having McBryde as a co-writer, the entire project is something the 40-year-old takes tremendous pride in and hopes fans will embrace the musical journey of the project just as much as she has.
“We can’t wait for you to dig into these songs that found a home on The Devil I Know,” McBryde said in a statement. “Every decision that went into it had to pass a gut check, and I’m proud to say this entire record does just that. Thanks for coming along with us on this journey – we’re so glad you’re here.”
McBryde will take these stories on the road beginning next month as she embarks on The Devil I Know Tour, visiting more than 30 cities across the U.S.
Along for support on select dates will be openers Corey Kent, Bella White, Will Jones, Harper O’Neill, Kasey Tyndall, Zach Top and JD Clayton.
“My fans love music, they love to consume good music — and not just what is handed to them out of mainstream radio,” McBryde said, taking pride in the openers she and her band selected. “They enjoy discovering artists, and I thought with this set of openers, we have such a beautiful bouquet of music.”
