Kelsea Ballerini is no stranger to the spotlight, and after hosting the CMT Music Awards for the third time earlier this month, she’s been reminded of the unsolicited opinions that come with the honor.

Kelsea recently joined KSON’s John and Tammy... San Diego's Morning Show and shared why she continually raises her hand for hosting opportunities when she’s well-aware of the scrutiny that comes with it.

“The reason I like it is it just gets me more involved,” Kelsea told KSON’s John and Tammy. “I’m in there helping write the scripts, I’m in there saying, ‘I’d really prefer to introduce this person because I have a great story.’ I just like getting my hands in it because I’m such a fan. I grew up being a fan and I feel like being able to host allows me to nurture the fan.”

While hosting allows her to tend to her inner fan, it clearly doesn’t come without drama, which is something Kelsea says she’s had to learn to manage over the past few years.

“I’ve also realized — especially the last year — whatever I do is gonna be wrong so I’m just showing up and enjoying it knowing that it’s going to be picked apart,” she shared. “But the people I want to make music for are not the ones doing that.”
