The legendary singer-songwriter and actor has reportedly been retired since 2020 as Music Row revealed. The report came as a surprise as their story was centered around Morris Higham Management signing on as the management representation of Kristofferson’s estate.
The announcement comes as a surprise even though Kristofferson has been less involved with music and acting projects over the past few years. Kris has named his son John Kristofferson as the leader of the family’s businesses while his longtime friend and colleague Tamara Saviano will serve as public relations director.
“It’s been amazing to dig in to my dad’s catalog and history with this seasoned group of professionals,” John said in a statement. “MHM and Tamara are experts on everything from old Nashville to the up and comers, and I can’t imagine a better partnership to bring the full depth of his songwriting to a new generation. The name has always been synonymous with songwriting as an art, and we’re excited to reintroduce his work to new and old fans alike.”
John added, “we have many exciting projects in the works and I look forward to getting them out into the world.”
One of the businesses that will continue will be Kristofferson’s indie record label, KK Records. The label put out Kristofferson’s most recent album The Cedar Creek Sessions back in 2016. The 25-track album wound up receiving a GRAMMY nomination for Best Americana Album.
