Over a quarter-million women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. Breast cancer can attack anyone, but there are certain risks people need to know.

Breast cancer will take the lives of more than 40,000 women this year and have a dramatic impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands more. While any woman can get breast cancer, there are certain people at higher risk.

Breast cancer can occur at any age but the risk goes up over age 50. Breast cancer runs in families and has been linked to certain genes.

There are ways to reduce the chances. Exercise can have a protective effect, and it is important to eat a low-fat diet and to avoid alcohol.

We know that detecting breast cancer early helps improve one’s chances. Mammograms are one of the best tools we have for detecting  breast cancer in the earliest stages.
