In honor of Women’s History Month, we're celebrating the power of Women in Country by honoring iconic heritage female artists, showcasing the genre's rising stars, and spotlighting today’s hit female artists. Today RADIO.COM welcomes Country duo Maddie & Tae! Don't miss their full interview and performance of "Bathroom Floor" above.
As singers Madison Marlow and Taylor Dye joined us over video chat, Rob + Holly first were dying to hear about Maddie's trio of Rhode Island Red chickens, Matilda, Ruby, and Fiona. "Ruby is the head hen in charge," says Maddie. A "head hen in charge" is a "leading lady," right? ABSOLUTELY! So, this ties in perfectly with our theme of the month -- discussing the iconic women in the lives of our own favorite Country stars and up-and-comers in the industry.
Both Maddie and Tae agree that Dolly Parton is one of the women in their lives who they feel has lead by example. Lee Ann Womack also got an honorable mention. "I just tried to emulate her voice so much growing up," says Maddie. "The lyrics and harmonies of The Chicks were a big influence," says Tae. "And then Carrie Underwood, I would sing all of her songs. Any chance I got, like a talent show or to audition for anything, it was Carrie." Maddie "always did Miranda [Lambert] songs. It's so funny," she laughed. "Two of the baddest chicks in town!"
For young women who are looking to make their way in music industry, Maddie and Tae gave some sage advice. "I feel there's power in patience and persistence," Maddie says. "When someone tells you 'no,' then just figure out another way. When someone closes a door or doesn't give you an opportunity or something doesn't work out, that just means God has something better planned. But you have to go for it. There are so many people working hard in this town, you gotta outwork everyone and figure out what makes you different and then own that."
"I think everything starts from intention and grows from there," Tae adds. "I think intention is your passion and as long as you have passion and you remember why you are doing something in the first place and success follows. To me, success is happiness so whatever your form of success looks like... just be passionate and go from there."
