Next time you’re thinking of finally throwing out that old doll in the back of the closet that you only held onto because your grandmother gave it to you, try yanking its head off and turning it into a planter.

Yup, that’s a thing that’s going on through crafty home decor circles as we enter the spooky season. Here’s how to join that coven.

First off, should you have already tossed all your old dollies, check out yard sales or thrift stores. Not only will you in a humble way be helping the planet by reusing something that might’ve ended up in a landfill, but you’re possibly saving another child from nightmares.

Stick with dolls that have plastic or rubber heads, as porcelain is a little tough to work with.

Once you’ve cleaned off the head, decide what kind of plant you want in it. Flowers and cacti work, just remember whatever you choose, they need room to fit in the limited confines of a toy doll’s head. Next, you’ll need a craft knife or hacksaw to lop off the doll's dome and a file to smooth the edges. Find a small plant saucer to affix the head on as a base, and voila! Or maybe, Boo!

Get creative and paint on some dark circles around the eyes, blood dripping around the neck, or whatever ghoulish notion comes to mind.

And if you just don’t have it in you to yank a doll head from its body, check around Etsy or Amazon, as there are way more people out there willing to dismember a doll than you’d initially think.
