6 Reasons Hatebreed is the Greatest Band Ever for Lifting Weights

Hatebreed in Portland!!

When it comes to lifting weights, Hatebreed is the ultimate soundtrack. Jamey Jasta’s lyrics are just the perfect blend of inspiration and aggression. Combine them with punishing riffs and epic breakdowns, and you have arguably the greatest lifting band of all time. I'm here on #WeightRoomWednesday to make that argument.

This past Friday Kevin Diers and I drove down to Portland to see them play the Crystal Ballroom, then we drove home, and the next night I saw them again at Showbox Sodo. (Kevin had to host Metal Shop! It was fun stopping by after the show.)

Both shows kicked serious ass. For the record, Seattle’s pit was definitely rowdier.

In celebration of that awesome weekend, and the thousands of push ups, pull ups, rows, deadlifts, squats, and lunges I’ve done with Hatebreed in my ear buds, I present you with 6 punishing tracks that will fuel your next workout:

Another Day Another Vendetta

“Never let go of what you strive for.
Never think you can't make a change.”

Live For This

“Every drop of blood
Every bitter tear
Every bead of sweat
I live for this”

Perseverance

"Against all opposition
Crushing all limitations
Pure strength through solitude
Discipline and determination"

You’re Never Alone

“It's our struggles that define us
And the hardships we endure
Your spirit can't be broken now
You've come too far”

Never Let It Die

"So resolve, reassure and push on without fear
Ignite the flame, because only you govern what tomorrow holds"

This Is Now

“How can I change tomorrow if I can't change today?
This is now (now!)
If I control myself I control my destiny”

As you can tell, I intentionally highlighted some of the more inspirational lyrics of their catalogue. I like to keep Down With the Fitness uplifting and encouraging. If you’re just feeling pissed off, “Everyone Bleeds Now”, “Doomsayer” and “Destroy Everything” will do the trick!

Music is such a big reason I love working out. Hatebreed has been one of my go-to bands for the better part of the last decade. The idea is that these songs will make you actually WANT to go to the gym. Once you get excited to work out, the rest tends to fall into place.

Check out those exercise links up top if you need some pointers on doing sh** right. Here’s some more general tips and some specifically about fitting the gym into your busy schedule.

Down With The Fitness is here to give you simple, actionable tips that will improve your health. If you found this helpful, feel free to check out the archives for more. I'm pretty proud of the rabbit hole this thing has become.
