Hola 12s!
The NFL 2021 season has finally begun, and free agency deals have been happening in force for the past week! Last week I gave some predictions as to the direction that our boys would take. I was right on some, wrong on others. Not all of the free agents on our roster were picked up in the last week, meaning they're still able to sign contracts with another team or ours, but we're going to start with our dearly departed, as that is so far a shorter list.
SIGNED TO OTHER TEAMS
Not gonna lie gang, we lost some good muscle on this team, I winced at most all of these leaving. The quick rundown: To Carolina we lost WR David Moore, a dependable receiver that was never our #1 option, but always a reliable one when we went to him. To Buffalo we sent TE Jacob Hollister, You all know my love of the Tight End position, and I really thought Hollister was going to be a good one for us. And Jacksonville picked us clean with WR Phillip Dorsett meh, CB Shaquille Griffin, and RB Carlos Hyde. Not a day after I release my hypothesis that we're going to go all in on Hyde, he signs with the Jags, which made me pucker about our run game gonna lie. And then long time project Shaquille Griffin went out and got himself a dynamite deal, I wish him the best in Florida. Cheers to all of em, I was sad to see them go.
RE-SIGNED WITH THE HAWKS
This is where it gets interesting, this is about as close as we get to seeing just what's in the minds of the brass, who they keep in the locker room. The list isn't long, but we've re-signed: Center Kyle Fuller, who I didn't see much of last season, Center Ethan Pocic, a dependable man on the front line, there was a short period where he was injured, but he's put up good numbers for us while he's in that lineup. FB Nick Bellore, another dependable battering ram whenever he was in the game, looks more like a tight-end than a full back, but gets the job done either way. And my personal favorite, RB Chris Carson! I had given up hope, I thought for sure this man was out the door, but he's in Seattle for another 2-3 years gang! Super stoked, a perfect re-sign
New Free Agent Signings
Now for the fun part! We did manage to bring some new weapons in to bolster this team up a bit! First off, we've filled the Shaquille Griffin departure with CB Ahkello Witherspoon from the Niners, this guy was a pain in the neck for DK in the last couple years, and I see a strong bond forming there, I feel like they're going to bring each other to new heights being able to work together in practice each week. We picked up Guard Gabe Jackson in a trade before he hit the free agency market, a 7-year vet which may just be the final piece of the puzzle that Russell needed. He doesn't need much more on the front line, but he definitely needed more. And finally, we picked up Tight End Gerald Everett from our foes the LA Rams. Being that that team had so many weapons in the form of receivers, we didn't get to see much in the way of explosive numbers for Mr. Everett, but He is definitely one of the top TE that were on the market, and with our new coach that we also acquired from the Rams, this is a good fit.
Though our first week was relatively quiet, I'd still say it was a good one. We lost some meat, almost no fat, but gained back in a big big way. Only time will tell what happens with these moves, and we're going to be in this interesting limbo until the Draft. That's when we see some trades happening for better picks. Seeing as Pete has an almost aversion to draft picks, I wouldn't be surprised if we make one before that starts up. Alright, I've got a show to put together, With that...Mike Hawk is OUT!
