Ayo 12s!
The news is out, the Seahawks have officially parted ways with defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. Norton originally came up from USC in 2010 to join his coaching partner, Pete Carroll, and paved the way for the Seahawks to achieve their first Super Bowl victory. He moved on to the Raiders in 2015, then the 49ers in 2018, before coming back to Seattle less than a week later.
Knowing very little about what it is he does as a Defensive Coordinator and what that entails, I cannot speak to whether or not this was a "good move", but what I have seen in the years since his return, the Seahawks defense has certainly struggled. We've had a cornerback issue that is just now starting to come to a fix, a pass rush that isn't really visible, and some glaring gaps in the short-pass game that team after team exploited; so my feeling is, he did well for us in the past, but it's time for us to go another direction.
Now the fun part, who gets the job? Do we move a coach up within the organization? Do we pilfer another coach in the league? Do we bring up a college coach to give a shot and fresh perspective in the NFL? These decisions, are WAY above my paygrade and knowledge. But 1 thing is for certain, Seattle's defense will look a little different next season. With that...Mike Hawk is OUT!
