BJ & Migs Loud and Local Band of the Week : Of The Heavy Sun

Of The Heavy Sun

Of the Heavy Sun is a psychedelic Rock band consisting of Sam "Dingo" Emerick on guitar and vocals, Alynn Sobolik on bass guitar, and Jake Ivester on drums. This local three-piece has a unique yet familiar sound, combining soft vocal melodies with hard-hitting riffs and a stomping rhythm section. Throw in some chorus pedal and Punk sensibilities, and it's like the Central Tavern in 1989 all over again.
Of the Heavy Sun started in 2015 as a two-piece band in Fayetteville, Arkansas with Sam and James "Sunshine" Rose. After recording their self-titled debut album, Sam moved to Seattle and met Jake, who recently moved from Melbourne Beach, Florida.
Together, they played countless shows around the greater Seattle area and recorded the band's second album, After Dark (2018). After a long, grueling two-year search for a solid bassist, Alynn joined the band in late-2019, a local body from Kent, Washington. Finally a three-piece band, Of the Heavy Sun recorded their EP Pink Days (2020) with producer Jack Endino, featuring their longest and most complex song to date, "Ice Cream Slaughterhouse." They are currently writing and recording their next full-length album, set to release this year.
