It appears that Dead & Company’s “final tour” wasn’t actually the nail in the coffin for live shows. As The Grateful Dead legends Bob Weir and Mickey Hart announced they, & Company, plan to reconvene for a residency at Las Vegas’ Sphere this spring.

Despite previously announcing their final tour in 2023, which concluded with a pair of hometown dates in San Francisco, towards the end of the year, rumors began to spread that Dead & Company might be ending their brief retirement to take over for U2 at the cutting-edge Las Vegas venue, following Phish’s four-night visit
After weeks of speculation, the band seemingly confirmed those speculations to be true with a social media post showing the Grateful Dead’s classic “Steal Your Face” logo projected on the massive Sphere.
Weir and Hart alongside John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, and drummer Jay Lane, will join forces for the Dead Forever residency, playing three shows a weekend over the span of eight weeks, beginning May 16-18 through June 20-22, with the promise that “each weekend’s three performances will feature a unique setlist.”
As they semantically explained in the teaser, last year’s trek still technically counts as a “final tour,” since they’ll be “residing” instead of “touring” or their stint at the Sphere. “In 2023, Dead & Company played their final tour,” a message from the band read. “But there are other ways to make sure the music never stops.” Followed by a quippy nod to the venue, noting “and it’s gonna be a ball.”
