Fans wishing to catch the Foo Fighters live on television as the group begins to ramp up the Rock in anticipation of their upcoming tour dates apparently had their hopes dashed thanks to the ongoing writer's strike.

As the labor dispute between the Writers Guild of America labor union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers lingers with negotiations over new contracts and proper pay still ongoing, late-night shows have been feeling the crunch. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Saturday Night Live's upcoming May episodes, including the 48th season finale, have been struck with woe.
The White Lotus' Jennifer Coolidge was apparently set to make her SNL hosting debut on May 20 which would have also featured the Foo Fighters as musical guests -- their first time returning to the show's iconic stage since the passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022. The May 13 episode was to feature Succession's Kieran Culkin as host, and Labrinth as musical guest.
This week's episode (Saturday, May 6), has officially been canceled, and was to feature former cast member Pete Davidson as host with Lil Uzi Vert as musical guest. "SNL will air repeats until further notice," NBC sources revealed earlier this week.
“While company profits have remained high and spending on content has grown, writers are falling behind,” the Writer's Guild of America said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “The companies have used the transition to streaming to cut writer pay and separate writing from production, worsening working conditions for series writers at all levels. On TV staffs, more writers are working at minimum regardless of experience, often for fewer weeks, or in mini-rooms, while showrunners are left without a writing staff to complete the season. And while series budgets have soared over the past decade, median writer-producer pay has fallen.”
Luckily Foo fans will be able to catch the band on the road as they continue to add headlining dates to their previously scheduled 2023 festival and tour itinerary. Grab your tickets, and listen to Foo Fighters Radio now on the free Audacy app.
