Where Are They Now: Larry Sharp

#KISW50
Larry "Sharpie" Sharp

How many years did you work at KISW? 3, 1980-83

What position(s) did you work at KISW? Mid-Day Air Personality

What are your three greatest memories at KISW?
1. The Stewart St. building. So funky, yet so fun!
2. Doing fill-in for Crow and/or Hovanes. Loved working with those guys.
3. Working with the amazing talented staff - Langan and West, Dr. Rock, Crow and Hovanes, the inimitable Steve Slaton, all of whom I listened to and inspired me before ever getting into radio.

What’s a story you couldn’t tell people back in the day? I once ran to the store to get a six-pack while "Stairway to Heaven" played. To the store and back in less than 9 minutes! Sorry Beau.

What band were you most proud to bring to a bigger audience? Van Halen, AC/DC, Heart

How has Seattle changed the most? It has been discovered. Back in the '70s and '80s, the country ignored Seattle. I think that is why we had such great talent on the air on Seattle radio stations.

What’s something you never thought you’d see? I'll have to claim the 5th on that one.

What’s your best memory of meeting a rock star? Hanging out at a Sea-Tac hotel with Huey Lewis before he was famous. Bathtub full of champagne bottles on ice, other '80s type mood enhancers and great stories from a really cool guy. Thanks Robert Nesbitt!

Who was your best friend at the station back in the day? Bob Hovanes, Gary Crow

Name a KISW band you still love! All of them!

Favorite concert from your time at KISW? Rolling Stones 1981 at the Kingdome. We broadcast live from the Dome for a week watching the stage being built.

What was your most memorable band interview? Ann and Nancy from Heart.

What's Sharpie doing these days? You can catch him running a cruise boat in Napa! Next time you're in wine country, check out Blue Sky Napa River Cruises.
