In a letter posted on his social media accounts, Lewis Capaldi revealed this past New Year’s Eve that his health has seen some great improvements. The letter begins, “As most of you will know, I'm currently taking some time off to focus on my health and well-being and it's been going great! I've been working with some incredible professionals to help me learn about and cope better with my Tourette's and anxiety issues."

Capaldi publicized his Tourette Syndrome in 2022, noting his frequent and uncontrollable shoulder twitches. However, Capaldi has previously admitted that he struggles more when touring and performing. “My mental health issues are a direct symptom of my job,” he told Apple Music. “I was in a bad way where I was just having panic attacks every single day on stage, and I was just shy.” After his Glastonbury Festival performance this past year, the “Before You Go” singer decided it was best for his health to take a hiatus, and it’s clearly done wonders. He continues in the letter, “I'm really happy to say I've noticed a marked improvement in both since I decided to take some time off back in June.”

Capaldi went on to thank his fans for their unwavering support, admitting that he was “absolutely terrified” that his album wouldn’t meet expectations or fail without a tour. Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent instead did quite well and became the fastest-selling album of 2023 in the UK. To show his appreciation, Capaldi announced the release of the album’s extended version with five new songs released on New Year's Day. “I've decided it would be a shame for these extra five songs, which are so incredibly special to me, to sit on my hard drive, never to see the light of day,” he said.

But that doesn’t mean the hiatus is over. He clarified in the letter that, while he has no set date to return, Capaldi is taking his health day-by-day. “For now I'm going to continue taking some time to carry on looking after myself, maybe writing some new music and taking a moment to reflect on some of the most incredible years of my life,” he wrote. “I want to make absolutely sure I'm 100% before getting back out there properly for more shows and doing what I love more than anything!”
