455 new words were added to the dictionary this month

Merriam-Webster included acronyms and updated Coronavirus-related words.

As time goes on and culture changes, so does the English language. Merriam-Webster dictionary announced the addition of 455 words and phrases this month.

Some of the new terms include:


Dad Bod- a physique regarded as typical of an average father; one that is slightly overweight and not extremely muscular

TBH- an abbreviation for "to be honest"; frequently used in social media and text messaging

Super-spreader- an event or location at which a significant number of people contract the same communicable disease

Ghost Kitchen- a commercial cooking facility used for the preparation of food consumed off the premises

Amirite- slang used in writing for "am I right" to represent or imitate the use of this phrase as a tag question in informal speech.

Doorbell Camera- a small camera that is designed for use on an exterior door, that includes or connects to a doorbell, and that often has a built-in microphone and speaker

FTW- an abbreviation for "for the win" —used especially to express approval or support

Digital Nomad- someone who performs their occupation entirely over the Internet while traveling
