After seven seasons with the Cowboys, running back Ezekiel Elliott was cut from the team heading into the offseason. Two months later, he has yet to sign with another.
That's a perfect situation for former running back, and NFL Hall of Famer, Emmitt Smith, who thinks the Cowboys should really consider bringing back Zeke.
In an interview with CBS Sports, Smith explained how he's concerned about Tony Pollard as he's recovering following breaking his fibula last season against the San Francisco 49ers.
Smith explained brining Zeke back would give them a backup or "interim" starter in the event Pollard isn't 100% by the time the season begins.
Smith said, "Having a backup or a starter like Zeke in the interim would have been one of things that I would have thought about.
The Cowboys are business people and Zeke understands that, but you gotta strike when the iron is hot and get compensated for your value. When you're not, people shift you out."
The Cowboys already seem to have a contingency plan at running back, having drafted Deuce Vaughn out of Kansas State earlier this month.
Pollard previously told DallasCowboys.com that his injury "won't impact" his future ability.
