When seeking an opinion on a matter, it always helps to refer to the words of an expert, so regarding the matter of home safety, why not seek the advice of a former burglar?
The anonymous man posed a simple solution to help deter the amount of break-ins for a home, and it will cost you less than $10.

The man revealed that placing a “Beware of Dog” sign outside one’s home is an easy deterrent for criminals because, per The Mirror, “Targeting a house with a dog, or mention of a dog, isn't worth it. I'd want to be in and out within 15 minutes maximum and having to possibly deal with a dog would put the job at risk.”
Although it isn’t 100% effective, the burglar states, “Although not all burglars would avoid a house just because it has a warning sign, but they would be stupid to when there's an easier house right next door.”
Of course, some folks believed this could only invite more problems.
One person wrote, “I have a dog and wouldn't install a sign like this because I feel like it's saying 'hey, I have a dog, come inside and take her,” though they did offer another solution saying, "I just keep the outside lights on instead and I haven't been robbed yet - touch wood!”
“Beware of Dog” signs can be bought online and in stores for around $6, though prices can vary between about $2 and $20 depending on the shop.
