Molly Ringwald was a megastar in the '80s, but even she would say her career hit something of a stalwart post her John Hughes-era.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Ringwald attributes to her lack of major success to Hollywood having a "narrow idea of who she was and what she could do."

Ringwald said, "I didn't really feel like darker roles were available to me.  The ones that I wanted to do, I didn't get. I was too young for certain roles. I was at this weird in-between stage."

She lost out on roles in Working Girl and Silence of the Lambs, though some she rejected outright, including the role of Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman, which eventually went to Julia Roberts.

Ringwald explained, "Julia Roberts was wonderful in it, but I didn't really like the story.  Even then, I felt like there was something icky about it."
