It was supposed to be a celebration honoring our country's finest, but it turned tragic after two historic planes collided during the Wings over Dallas event this past Saturday.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, which is handling the investigation, there were five crew members on the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, and one aboard the Bell P-63 Kingcobra.

In video footage of the crash that was described by mayor Eric Johnson as "heartbreaking," the planes are seen breaking apart in midair after the collision, then hitting the ground within seconds, before bursting into flames.

According to WFAA, the NTSB says neither of the aircraft had a flight data recorder, also known as a "black box," so videos and pictures from witnesses will be crucial to the investigation.

Anyone with any footage of the accident is encouraged to send it to witness@ntsb.gov.
