A 14-year-old in Australia will be allowed to dress like a cat at school after she informed officials that she actually identifies as "feline."

The teen will be allowed to dress like a cat, though she will not be allowed to speak like one, and will be able to continue to do so as long as it doesn't become a "distraction" for the other students.

A source close to the family told News.com.au, "No one seems to have a protocol for students identifying as animals, but the approach has been that if it doesn't disrupt the school, everyone is being supportive."

The "phenomenally bright" teen has been allowed to assume the identity, with her behavior being linked to the growing "Furries" culture.

Though her school did not confirm the report, they did issue a statement that said they were displaying "a range of issues, from mental health, anxiety or identity issues," adding "Our approach is always unique to the student and we will take into account professional advice and the wellbeing of the student."
