Overland Park, KS - A memorial made of girders from one of the World Trade Center twin towers stands at the Overland Park Fire Training Center, a reminder of Sept. 11, 2001, and the worst terrorist attack on American soil.
A service was held at the site on Wednesday morning to mark the day.
An an honor guard lowered a flag to half-staff and a wreath was placed near a panel on which is etched the names of almost 3,000 people who were killed on 9/11.
The ceremony includes a bell strike to mark the time American Airlines flight 11 struck the North Tower.
The bell sounds a second time for when another jetliner struck the South Tower.
The third strike marks the moment when a plane crashed into the Pentagon. At 9:03, the bell sounds a final time for when United Airlines flight 93 crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.
The ceremony concluded at 9:30, to mark the time when the North Tower collapsed.
