Cardi could barely contain her herself and her thoughts about the amazing news and how grateful she was to hear about her top ranking. “I want God to come see me in my dreams when I take my nap today so I can kiss his feet and tell him how much I love him,” she wrote under a post showing this week’s top 10. “Yoooooo s*** is amazing yoooooo. I got no words. Actually I got a lot of words but I can’t type it all 😩😂NUMBER 1!!!!!”
She then hopped on IG Live with her hubby and No. 1 fan, Offset, to celebrate Cardi’s accomplishment as a family.
After all the chatter its safe to say that “Up” made the jump from No. 6 to No. 1 following Cardi’s show-stealing performance at the 63rd annual GRAMMY Awards. Regardless of why or how, this latest feat earns Cardi her fifth Hot 100 No. 1, after debuting at No. 2, where it tallied three weeks as runner-up before, well you know, going “Up” to the top spot.
For her GRAMMY performance Cardi went with a medley of “Up” and “WAP,” her previous No. 1 single featuring Megan Thee Stallion. In the week following the performance, “Up” generated 18,000 downloads sold (the most for the week) and 22.7 million streams in the US, boosting the track to the top of Billboard’s Hot 100, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and Hot Rap Songs.
Cardi’s the first female rapper to claim the No. 1 spot on all three charts, doing so already once before with “Bodak Yellow.” Finding herself in great company, as the only other female artist to do so is Lizzo with her 2019 hit “Truth Hurts.”
