It's been a little bit of a rough stretch for Draymond Green regarding staying out of trouble on the court.
It all started when he was whistled for a tech and subsequently ejected after yelling at his own teammate, a mistake that the officials eventually acknowledged.
He tried to give rookie Anthony Edwards a hard time on the floor after missing a layup with some trash talk, as an established veteran might do, and got trash talked right back after Edwards made up for his miss.
And most recently, he got tagged with another technical foul, this one occurring long after the initial play for jawing with the referees until they reached their breaking point. You can watch the full video here, though you're not going to see much that will fill you in as to why he earned a tech. Color commentator Chris Webber seemed to know it was coming, saying, "he's about to get the technical right there, just the official looked at him and said 'boy, you do that one more time and we're going to give you one.' "
Turns out Webber was right.
According to Team Rankings, this puts Draymond Green second in the NBA with six technical fouls, trailing only Dwight Howard. This isn't particularly surprising. Green has ranked fifth, first, second, sixth and first in the NBA in technical fouls the five seasons prior to the 2020-21 campaign.
One has to wonder who needs to stop acting so emotional — the refs or Draymond himself.
