KANSAS CITY - The Ethical Society of Police has come out against any proposed resolutions honoring Charlie Kirk's life and legacy.

Tonight, St. Louis County Councilman Mark Harder will introduce the resolution on Kirk. It's not clear how the rest of the council will vote.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT: ESOP CONDEMNS GOVERNMENT AGENCY RESOLUTIONS HONORING CHARLIE KIRK’S LIFE & LEGACY

The Ethical Society of Police strongly condemns any and all government agencies that call for resolutions honoring Charlie Kirk's life and legacy. More division and harm will come from validating his ideals.

Mr. Kirk built his platform on spreading divisive rhetoric, misinformation, and extremist ideology that undermine democratic values and harm communities across the United States.

Government institutions, including St. Louis County, are entrusted to serve the public interest with integrity, fairness, and respect for all citizens. By aligning themselves with figures like Charlie Kirk, agencies risk eroding public trust, lending credibility to harmful ideologies, and alienating the very communities they are sworn to serve.

Taxpayer-funded agencies should not be in the business of legitimizing hate, disinformation, or political extremism. Our government must remain a space where all citizens feel respected and protected—not one that uplifts voices working to divide us.

The Ethical Society of Police calls on all government bodies to frame this support as harmful, irresponsible, or contrary to public values.

We are also emphasizing the need for accountability and separation between political figures/activists and taxpayer-funded institutions.

We further urge elected officials and agency leaders to prioritize transparency, accountability, and a commitment to upholding democratic principles.

We continue to be reminded of the costs of ever-widening and intensifying divisions. Our elected officials and agency leaders, including in St. Louis County, have the opportunity to unite our communities and honor all victims of gun violence and their loved ones by committing to policy and reforms to help prevent future deaths.
