
KANSAS CITY – The power is back on but the clean up continues from the powerful storm that blasted the KC Metro on Friday, July 14th. And now it's clean-up time. Here's how several cities across the Metro are handling debris pick-up:
Kansas City, MO residents should put out their debris on the curb by July 24 at 7 a.m. and make an appointment for pickup. Residents may begin making appointments on July 17, and need to be made by July 23. Crews will begin collection in the south of the City on July 24 and will move north. All debris will be picked up by region.
Wyandotte County’s Recycling and Yard Waste Center will open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, at 3214 Park Drive in KCK. The center is open only to KCK residents, who will need to show proof of residency.
KCK residents can put debris curbside on regular trash days. Leaves and clippings must be bagged, 50 loud limit per bag. Tree limbs must be bundled.
The Johnson County landfill will also accept landscape waste from Wyandotte County residents free of charge.
Roeland Park is offering three free trash bags for those who need to dispose of spoiled food that doesn't fit into trash carts. Contact city hall.
Lawrence city crews will clean up trees and tree limbs from “main roadways.” Crews will also collect yard waste, tree limbs, and storm debris on the normal days of trash collection. They must be bundled up, not exceed five feet in length and 18 inches in diameter and not weigh over 65 pounds.
Overland Park residents with limbs from trees can report it to the city using OPCares. Overland Park residents must show proof of residency, and bring debris from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. July 22-23 to Overland Park Parks Headquarters at 11921 Hardy.
The City of Tonganoxie is encouraging residents to bring storm debris to the vacant lot east of the fire station located on 4th Street. Drop-offs will be allowed through Sunday, July 23rd.
The City of Merriam, Kansas, said the city will have free tree limb curbside pick-up next week. They'll announce an exact date soon.
The City of Prairie Village, Kansas, said large debris pickup begins July 24th. Limbs and yard waste will need to be bundled.
The City of Gladstone said its Public Works facility at 4000 NE 76th Street will be open on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be available to Gladstone residents only. Proof of residency is required.
The City of Mission said it will offer free curbside pick-up of tree limbs next week.
Shawnee said residents can drop off storm debris starting Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays on the southwest corner of Johnson Drive and Renner. It's limited to Shawnee residents.
The City of Independence said it will have a free storm debris drop-off site on Wednesday, July 19, from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 22, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents can drop off damage at 875 Vista Avenue. Proof of residency is required.
