KANSAS CITY - Kansas has marked a major milestone in providing support to parents in crisis with the unveiling of its first Safe Haven Baby Box. Installed at Fire Station 1 in Hutchinson, located at 2222 N. Main Street, the box offers a secure and anonymous option for surrendering infants.

The Safe Haven Baby Box is designed to prioritize safety and confidentiality. When an infant is placed inside, an alarm immediately alerts 911, ensuring a rapid response. This initiative follows a 2023 Kansas law permitting baby boxes at fire and police stations across the state.

Infants surrendered through the program are placed with child services and are often adopted by families eager to provide a loving home. The Hutchinson location joins a growing network of 294 Safe Haven Baby Boxes across the United States. Since the program's inception in 2016, it has served as a critical resource for parents in need.

For those seeking assistance, Safe Haven Baby Boxes provides a 24/7 confidential hotline at 1-866-99BABY1.
