Kansas City, MO – Summer is still here for a while, but a colder and snowier winter is coming for Kansas City. So says the ol' Farmer's Almanac.

“It is going to be colder this winter. You’re probably going to be looking at, on average, four or five degrees colder for the whole winter," says Ben Kilbride, assistant editor with the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

And the snow?

“The northern area, you’re going to experience less snow, while in the central and southern areas you’re going to get more snow than normal," says Kilbride. "And when I say normal, these are based on historical 30-year averages.”

How the Old Farmer’s Almanac comes up with its forecast months ahead of time involves its own style of analyzing decades of weather data.

“Looking at the prevailing weather patterns, big air currents, the big ocean currents," says Kilbride. "And then using the history that we have to really get our predictions to be accurate.”

Just how accurate? Old Farmers Almanac reports they’ve been right about 80% of the time.

Whether they're correct about the weather forecast, or not... we know that winter is coming.
