Pub culture in the U.K. usually means that people can get fairly comfortable with their neighborhood watering hole. But how comfortable is TOO comfortable?
One couple tested the boundaries over the weekend – and the local decency laws – when they went out for a drink in the nude.
Neil Cox and Danielle Quiggan decided to enjoy a night out sans clothing at the Somerset Pub, and apparently their buck naked barhopping was perfectly legal.
It did however offend the sensibilities of some of their fellow pub patrons, causing some customers to vacate the premises.
“We expected the bar man to refuse to serve them,” customer Margaret Lishmund wrote on TripAdvisor. “There were several families with children in the pub, including ourselves, therefore it was not appropriate for them to be served. We decided to leave the pub and find somewhere else for dinner in town. Unfortunately another family were not able to as they had already ordered food.
“If you advertise as a family pub you should maintain these values,” she added.
Local police said Cox and Quiggan violated no laws and that it was simply up to the prerogative of the pub staff whether or not to serve them.
